Super Sonic Sisters
Super Sonic Sisters was a planned cartoon spin-off of the Sonic the Hedgehog TV show pitched to animation company DiC Entertainment in 1993. The show would have centered around the antics of Sonic's twin cousins, Monica and Isabelle, with Sonic himself making guest appearances. It is unknown whether the show was planned take place in its own continuity, or in the continuity of either Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog or Sonic SatAM, both of which were airing near the time of the first pitch. Two pitches for the show were made, the first of which contains synopses for several potential episodes, and the second of which serves as a summary of the first one with minor adjustments.
The series remained unknown to the public until 2023, when DiC writer Phil Harnage shared the pitch documents for preservation purposes.
Don't blink or you'll miss Sonic's speedy cousins, Monica and Isabelle. They're Super Sonic identical twins. Two, too much fun and two, too outrageous. Quick! Turn the page for double-action, double-laughs, and double-delight!
The show was planned to take place around a rural asteroid nearby Mobius, named Asteroid 896, where Monica and Isabella live, alongside their mother and father, who run an interstellar bar and repair shop called the Sprout Bar. Although similar in appearance, the twins were planned to have different personalities, with Isabelle generally being more impulsive and careless than her sister. The hedgehog sisters would also regularly get into antics at their school, the Mobius Moon High, a hi-tech school located on the moon of Mobius. They also were to be the runners of the school's news show, Comet Sense, which gave them a degree of popularity in the cosmos due to their excellent work.
The efforts of the twins would be opposed by Obnotnik, Dr. Robotnik's evil nephew, who despises the twins and their reporting, and would attempt to disrupt it. Robotnik himself would have a part in the show, conducting secret projects in the school while enforcing strict policies upon it. The Twins would find support, however, in the form of the school staff, who work to help the twins career and education.
Sonic would also appear occasionally to assist his cousins in their efforts, although it is unclear on whether or not Jaleel White would have come in to provide Sonic's voice.
The second pitch contains several of the elements from the first one (such as the twins living on an asteroid pit stop with their parents), but with many others omitted such as Mr. Straighten Narrow, possibly due to it being labeled a "summary" treatment, or possibly due to the characters being removed from the show. Small changes are also made, including Robotnik being a universal tyrant like in SatAM and Underground, and the name of the twins' news show being changed from "Comet Sense" to "Comet Tails"
Six episodes are mentioned in the first pitch document, although all were eventually scrapped along with the show:
"Scouting for Trouble" - In a swashbuckling adventure, Monica and Isabelle must perform a daring rescue after a desparate space pirate disguised as a Brownie troop leader kidnaps the hapless Brownies to row his pirate ship.
"Space Weights for No One" - Sonic is brought in to help coach Isabelle back into shape for the big track meet, after the rival's school coach feeds her a snack bar that causes instant weight gain, the Fat Bar.
"Defeat of Clay" - When Monica and Isabelle stay late to report on the art department's new kiln, they discover it is in fact Dr. Robotnik's top-secret experiment that transforms the students' clay sculptures into mischevous gremlins.
"Dance 'Til You Drop" - Monica and Isabelle enter the Dance 'Til You Drop contest at Mobius Moon High are collecting for their favorite charity. Obnotnik wants to beat the twins in the worse way... and he does. He imports the team of new students, the Double-Glint Twins, who just happen to be robots powered by dancing gas. Monica and Isabelle must unveil the plot and out-dance the robots at their own game, with a new super-sonic dance.
"The Truth Will Set You Freeze" - A sleazy satellite developer sees Mobius Moon High as a perfect retirement community... if he can get rid of the students and faculty. So he launches a mylar moon to eclipse the sun and freeze the moon out. Monica and Isabelle are hot on the trail of the frosty mystery and, with Cal Tech's help, send an ultrasonic beam that shatters the mylar in space.
"Double-Double Time" - To save the shuttle stop, Monica does a commercial, playing twins. Meanwhile, Isabelle must cover for herself and Monica at school and the TV station.
If the show was greenlit, Obnotnik would have been the second character in a DiC cartoon to be depicted as Robotnik's nephew, the first being Snively Robotnik from Sonic the Hedgehog SatAM.
Most likely cancelled in favor of the Sonic the Hedgehog SatAM.
