Nizar is a third grader attending Barbara Cockrell elementary. He meets criteria for the disability condition of Specific Learning Disabilities in (Basic Reading), and Speech Impairment (articulation). According to the most recent FIE dated 4/24/2023, Nizar challenges with inattention, and Auditory Processing (Ga) 69, making it learning difficult in reading comprehension, spelling, and following classroom instructions. Nizar's specific learning disability in the area of basic reading affects his ability to understand the fundamental aspects of reading such as phonemic awareness, phonics, and word recognition. This impacts access to reading-related instruction, and tasks such as (identifying and sounding out words, recognizing common sight words, understanding the meaning of words and simple sentences, matching spoken words to print, building vocabulary). READING: Nizar is below grade level in Comprehension. Nizar can comprehend text at a Kindergarten level (iReady 120L, BAS level C). After a read-aloud or controlled text, Nizar can answer explicit text-based questions with, chunking assignments clarification or rewording of vocabulary and oral administration with (73% accuracy, 3/4 questions) as measured by teacher assessments, iready scores, and BAS level text/listening comprehension assessments. Based on his iready scores, Nizar has a strength in vocabulary and informational text. It is noted that Nizar is experiencing difficulty with reading comprehension at grade level with 33% weekly average as evidence with teacher reports, class common assessments and benchmarks, using chunking assignments clarification or rewording of vocabulary, extra time, repeated review and oral administration. Nizar's disability impacts reasonable and meaningful progress in the general education curriculum and learning environment in the subject of Reading within the following area(s): Reading Comprehension. MATH: Nizar is below grade level in Calculation and Computation. Nizar can solve Calculation and Computation problems at a 2nd grade level. Nizar can solve a series of problems that involve (add/sub within 10, add/sub within 20 with and without regrouping) with (80%) accuracy as measured by teacher assessments, common assessments and daily assignments. It is noted that Nizar is experiencing difficulty with grade level math calculation and computation due to lack of attention to detail, and multi-step calculations with 20% success rate, using 100s chart, oral administration, and chunking of assignments.
