(Slight movement, a hand gesture.) That was my first lesson: Get comfortable with change. Initially, it will be tough. You’ll be in uncomfortable territory, and that’s okay. But trust me, it gets better. Embrace the unknown. Because that’s where the magic happens. (Transition, a slight shift in posture.) Years later, I found myself at NIT, in a whole new world, living in the hostel. It was exhilarating! I joined groups, made new friends, and discovered something about myself: My strength lies in finding common ground with people. I could understand different cultures, connect with diverse perspectives. This skill became my superpower, helping me network, build relationships, and it’s something I still rely on today. (A smile, a genuine connection with the audience.) My second lesson: Harness your unique strengths. Identify what you’re good at, what you enjoy, and use it to connect with the world around you. (Slight movement, a touch of humor in your voice.) I landed a job through campus interviews, the first company that came along! I thought I’d achieved the moon and stars. That same day, I met the man of my dreams. Our journey was like a storybook—blessed with two wonderful children. Suddenly, we were parents! And let me tell you, we quickly realized that no one is born a parent. We were learning on the job, navigating uncharted territory. We make mistakes but we move on..always showing the strong side of ourselves to our children.. (A thoughtful pause.) And that's my third lesson: Life is your teacher. Experience it. Just like every parenting journey is unique, with no pre-defined path, we must navigate life's challenges, learn from our mistakes, and trust our instincts. We navigated challenging years, balancing careers, kids, and home. (A shift in tone, a touch of vulnerability.) As my daughters excelled in sports, they needed a parent to travel with them. I made the difficult decision to take a career break, thinking I’d return when the time was right. Those seven years were incredible, filled with precious moments with my children. But as they grew, they needed me less. I learned that quality trumps quantity. (A slight nod, a lesson learned.) Lesson number four: Invest in quality experiences, not just quantity. Your time is precious. Spend it wisely, on the things that truly matter. (A deeper tone, a touch of reflection.) Then came COVID. We were in lockdown. My daughters in their rooms, online classes; my husband in another room, working; and me, feeling like my dog in the hall, caged. And then My husband contracted COVID, hospitalised. He was home after one week in hospital but doctor advised him to take on to breathing exercises. Thats when I joined him at home doing those exercises to give him company while he was so weak. And that's when my journey of mindfulness began. I was begining to enjoy it. (Eyes widen slightly, a spark of excitement.) I felt a new energy within me. (A shift in tone, a lighter, excited energy.) My fifth lesson: Mindfulness is key to unlocking your thinking power. Taking the time to be present, to connect with yourself, can reveal hidden strengths and unleash untapped potential. (A shift in tone, a touch of urgency.) My realisation to do things I had wanted to do, invest in myself grew stronger in the lockdown. I realized I needed to do something for myself. I had so much energy invested in my family, in others. But where was I in all of this? (A pointed finger, a moment of self-discovery.) Lesson six: Recognize your own needs and invest in yourself. (A return to a more positive tone.) After some struggle, I got back into the workforce, the fire in my belly blazing brighter than ever. I was a woman returnee, eager to learn, eager to prove myself. And I was given the opportunity to lead the Diversity & Inclusion program at my company. I could empathise while listening to every women's story while interviewing them as I had gone through the similar experience and was strugging to comeback This is when I realized I was impacting so many women’s lives through this role—and this gave me such peace and satisfaction. (A warm smile.) My seventh lesson: There’s no greater joy than to inspire, influence, and impact lives. (A lighter tone, a touch of humor returns.) Time flew, it was my college's silver jubilee! During my days in college I always loved being on stage. This time too, it was the time to perform. Girls of our batch put on a spontaneous fashion show! The fun part of me is always alive—the one who wants to walk into the room and own it. I was told I was good at my walk and I could talk well and, and I should try for Mrs. India. I laughed. But when i reached home i thought , Why not? I participated, not thinking about what others would think if I lost—and I became runner-up! We are always bothered about outcomes and not that deters us from taking the journey we would like to pursue. Why do we think of others while they are not helping you build you(A triumphant pause.) Lesson eight: Go by your gut feeling or may be some other lesson here? If something feels right, even if it’s scary, take a chance! (A final crescendo, a powerful call to action.) One thing led to another…giving back is important.....since my fascination for defence was so strong, I continue to work for veterans and spouses of defence forces in my company and at the state level...lesson - give back......
